It had not touched me as I walked to lead that many wanted Kings. My preference was to raise captains above other things. But, as I contemplated the pretense and constant conformity, I thought it prudent that I explain the difference I see. So, in three hundred words I put pen to paper intending to take little time. It just so happened that as I wrote, they came out as words with rhyme. I don’t intend to make poetry. I just wrote it like I thought. Don’t miss the point to raise a man, whether captain or king is wrought.
A king stands and commands respect as he gains status from birth.
A captain must conquer and lead and live to gain his place of worth.
A king learns stately gestures and bows with royal etiquette.
A captain learns of science and rows in loyal predicate.
A captain faces barriers of wave and inspires other men to stand tall.
A king worries many days and hopes continued strength of each wall.
A captain goes down with the ship he commands past isle and capes.
A king ducks out the back exit his right hands guide him to escape.
It’s not comparison of wealth, power, or authority.
I ask only as a metaphor which you’d rather your son to be.
It seems many desire a kingdom over which their son can preside.
But, I’d rather he travel the world with loyal men and women beside.
